All you need to know about NOW Broadband
NOW Broadband has changed significantly since it first launched. Previously known for low-cost broadband with flexible, rolling monthly contracts, NOW now offers a new range of broadband packages powered by Sky.
The new service combines NOW's simpler range of packages with Sky's broadband network, equipment and customer support. New customers ordering NOW Broadband powered by Sky sign a contract with Sky, receive a Sky bill and manage their broadband through Sky's systems.
The current range includes NOW Superfast, NOW Full Fibre 75, NOW Full Fibre 100 and NOW Full Fibre 300, depending on availability at your address.
If you're comparing providers, it's worth understanding the difference between the new service and the older NOW Broadband memberships, particularly if you're looking for a short contract or already have NOW broadband.
NOW Broadband packages and speeds
NOW Broadband offers a choice of broadband speeds to suit different households. The package available to you will depend on the broadband technology installed in your area.
NOW Superfast
NOW Superfast is a part-fibre broadband package with an advertised average download speed of 67Mbps. It uses fibre to the street cabinet, followed by a copper connection to your home.
This can be a suitable option for everyday browsing, streaming, video calls and households with several connected devices. However, your actual speed will depend on your address and connection.
NOW Full Fibre 75
NOW Full Fibre 75 uses fibre-optic cables all the way to your home, also known as Fibre to the Premises (FTTP). It has an advertised average download speed of 75Mbps and is suitable for everyday internet use, HD streaming and video calls.
NOW Full Fibre 100
With an advertised average download speed of 100Mbps, NOW Full Fibre 100 offers more bandwidth for busy households. It can suit people who work from home, stream on multiple devices or regularly download large files.
NOW Full Fibre 300
NOW Full Fibre 300 is the fastest package in the current NOW range, with an advertised average download speed of 300Mbps. It is designed for households with heavier internet use, including multiple simultaneous streams, large downloads and several people online at once.
All four packages offer unlimited broadband usage. The speed you receive in practice will depend on the product, your address, your home network and the devices you use.
Before choosing a package, check the estimated download and upload speeds available at your property rather than relying solely on the advertised average.
NOW Broadband powered by Sky
NOW Broadband powered by Sky is the new way for customers to buy NOW broadband. Rather than being managed entirely through the traditional NOW Broadband service, the new offering uses Sky's broadband infrastructure and customer service systems.
When you choose a powered-by-Sky package, you'll be redirected to Sky to complete your order. Your broadband contract will be with Sky, and you'll receive a Sky bill once your service is activated.
Sky also handles order tracking, technical support and account management. You can use Sky's online help services and the My Sky app to manage your connection and check your bills.
This doesn't mean NOW Broadband and Sky Broadband are identical in every respect. The available packages, speeds, prices and optional extras can differ, so it's worth comparing both providers before signing up.
What are the advantages of NOW Broadband?
Full Fibre options
NOW offers Full Fibre broadband with average download speeds of up to 300Mbps, where available. FTTP technology uses fibre-optic cables directly to your home and avoids the final copper connection used by part-fibre broadband.
Unlimited broadband
NOW's broadband packages include unlimited usage, so you can browse, stream, game and download without a monthly data allowance to worry about.
Sky-managed customer support
Customers on the new powered-by-Sky service receive support through Sky's systems. This includes online troubleshooting, order tracking and account management.
A choice of speeds
The range includes a part-fibre option and three Full Fibre packages. This gives customers a choice of connection speeds depending on what is available locally and how much bandwidth their household needs.
What are the disadvantages of NOW Broadband?
24-month contracts
The new NOW Broadband powered by Sky packages have a 24-month minimum term. This is an important difference from the older NOW Broadband service, which became known for its rolling monthly contracts.
If you need broadband for only a few months, for example because you're renting temporarily or moving soon, compare shorter-term alternatives before committing.
Full Fibre isn't available everywhere
NOW Full Fibre depends on the availability of an FTTP connection at your address. Not every property can receive every package, and some homes may only be offered NOW Superfast.
Check availability before choosing a deal.
NOW doesn't offer the same speed range as Sky
The current NOW range tops out at Full Fibre 300. Sky offers a wider range of broadband speeds in eligible areas, including faster Full Fibre packages.
If your household needs a particularly fast connection, compare the equivalent Sky packages as well as other providers.
Compare customer service before choosing
Although the new service is managed by Sky, it's sensible to consider independent customer satisfaction information as well as the provider's own claims. Customer experiences can vary, and headline download speeds don't tell you everything about the service you'll receive.
What router do you get with NOW Broadband?
New customers on NOW Broadband powered by Sky receive Sky broadband equipment rather than the old NOW TV Hub Two supplied with legacy packages.
The standard Sky Broadband Hub provides Wi-Fi connectivity for wireless devices and Ethernet connections for compatible wired devices. The precise equipment and any available upgrades should be checked against the package offered when you order.
Your broadband speed and your Wi-Fi performance are not the same thing. The speed reaching your home, the router's capabilities, the distance between your devices and the router, and obstacles such as thick walls can all affect the connection you experience.
For the best results, position your router in an open, central location where possible. If your broadband is fast near the router but slow in another room, the issue may be Wi-Fi coverage rather than the broadband connection itself.
Is NOW Broadband the same as Sky Broadband?
NOW Broadband and Sky Broadband are closely connected, but they're not exactly the same product.
NOW Broadband powered by Sky uses Sky's broadband service infrastructure and customer support systems. New customers complete their order through Sky and have a Sky broadband contract.
The main differences are in the packages available, their prices and the optional extras. NOW has a simpler range with speeds up to 300Mbps, while Sky offers a wider choice of speeds and additional broadband and TV options.
Neither provider is automatically the better-value choice. Prices and promotional offers change, so compare the available deals for your address, taking account of the speed, minimum contract, setup costs and any extras you actually need.
Frequently asked questions
Is NOW Broadband still available?
Yes. NOW Broadband is available to new customers through its powered-by-Sky packages, subject to availability at your address. The old Brilliant Broadband, Fab Fibre and Super Fibre products have been replaced for new customers.
What is the fastest NOW Broadband package?
NOW Full Fibre 300 is currently the fastest package in the range, with an advertised average download speed of 300Mbps.
How much does NOW Broadband cost?
How much you spend depends on the package you choose. NOW broadband packages start from £23 per month. View all the latest NOW Broadband offers.
Can you get NOW Broadband and NOW TV together?
NOW Broadband and NOW's streaming memberships are separate products.
You can subscribe to NOW's streaming service independently of your broadband provider, subject to the relevant membership terms. Having NOW Broadband doesn't automatically mean you receive a NOW Entertainment, Cinema or Sports membership.
If you want broadband and television together, compare the total cost of broadband plus any streaming subscriptions with the price of a broadband and TV bundle from Sky or another provider. Consider which channels and services you actually watch, as well as the minimum contract and any promotional expiry dates.
Is NOW Broadband cheaper than Sky?
It depends on the deals available at the time. NOW may offer competitive prices on some packages, but Sky has a wider range of speeds and may offer better value on certain deals. Compare the total cost, speed, contract and extras before deciding.
How long are NOW Broadband contracts?
The new NOW Broadband powered by Sky packages have a 24-month minimum contract. They should not be confused with the older NOW Broadband memberships that offered rolling monthly arrangements.
How do I switch to Now Broadband?
Switching to Now Broadband couldn't be easier. Once you have found the offer you want, simply click the ‘View Offer’ button. This will take you to Now’s website, who will guide you through the rest of the process. Or you can click the link below to go direct to the Now website.
If your current provider is Virgin Media then you will need to let them know that you're leaving and it's up to you to coordinate the end of one contract and the start of another.
If you're choosing a broadband package and are currently with another provider that uses the Openreach network, then they will do the contacting on your behalf.
Some broadband providers may increase monthly prices in line with the retail or consumer price index each year during the length of your contract. Please refer to individual broadband provider's terms and conditions before signing up.
