Hyperoptic Broadband deals
Virgin Media is the only major provider that offers broadband without a landline. Other ISPs use the BT Openreach network to provide services and that requires an active telephone line. Learn more about why you (probably) need a phone line to get broadband

All you need to know about Hyperoptic Broadband

Founded in 2011, Hyperoptic is the UK’s hyperfast broadband provider, bringing full fibre speeds to homes and businesses nationwide. Lucky customers can expect lightning fast speeds up to 1Gb thanks to its full fibre, or 'fibre to the home' connections. The downside - Hyperoptic is currently only available to around 1.4 million homes, typically blocks of flats and new builds.

Let's take a look in more detail at what Hyperoptic Broadband has to offer.

What packages do Hyperoptic Broadband offer?

Hyperoptic has a choice of full fibre packages with five different speeds:

  • 30Mb - Average speed up to 33Mb
  • 50Mb - Average speed up to 57Mb
  • 150Mb - Average speed up to 158Mb
  • 500Mb - Average speed up to 522Mb
  • 1Gb - Average speed up to 900Mb

All packages come with unlimited downloads and are available on either a 24 month, 12 month or a monthly rolling contract. As with a lot of providers, you can expect to pay slightly more for the monthly rolling plan.

Can I get a home phone service with Hyperoptic?

Hyperoptic operates on its own cable network which is full fibre, so no copper phone lines. This means that there is no line rental to pay, and no phone service unless you want one.

If you do opt for a phone service then this is a voice-over IP service which uses your broadband connection to make and receive calls, rather than your traditional copper phone line.

Hyperoptic's phone service comes with evening and weekend calls to UK landlines, caller display, call waiting and call barring options as standard.

What is Hyperoptic's Total WiFi?

Introduced in March 2022, Hyperoptic’s Total WiFi is their mesh WiFi service that gives you coverage in every room.

Total WiFi comes with Hyperoptic’s WiFi extender, the Minihub, which gives hyperfast fibre broadband throughout your home, from basement to bedroom.

Hyperoptic say that one Minihub should do the job, but a second can be added if necessary.

Why choose Hyperoptic Broadband?

Hyperfast speeds

Probably the main reason to choose Hyperoptic is the speeds. Their 1Gb package, with average wired speeds of 900Mbps, is 48x faster than the UK’s average upload.

Full fibre

Hyperoptic runs its own network of cables unlike most providers who use the Openreach network. This means they are able to offer full fibre, also known as 'fibre-to-the-building’, ‘fibre-to-the-home’ or ‘fibre-to-the-premises’.

Because the fibre goes right to your home and doesn't rely on ageing copper lines at any point, the speed is not only hyperfast, but is much more consistent.

No landline required

Hyperoptic's full fibre mean you don't have to pay line rental on a phone line you may never use.

Flexible contracts

Whilst not unique to Hyperoptic, the option of monthly rolling contracts is a big attraction for lots of customers, especially students or those on short tenancies.

Symmetrical connection

Hyperoptic's symmetrical connection means you get identical upload and download speeds. This is especially beneficial for server hosting and uploading large files.

Customer Service

Hyperoptic has 24/7 customer support and the highest Trustpilot rating of any other popular provider in the UK.

No traffic management

Hyperoptic won't slow your connection down at peak times.

Unlimited downloads

This is pretty common with most providers now, but still handy to know. No one wants any nasty surprises come bill time.

Try commitment-free

Hyperoptic allow you to try them out alongside your current broadband service to see which you prefer. If you’re not sold within 30 days, you can leave with no cancellation fees – and no hard feelings.

Price match guarantee

So confident in their value, Hyperoptic offer a price match guarantee - Find the same speed cheaper elsewhere and they’ll match it. They also guarantee the price for the duration of your contract.

What router do I get with Hyperoptic broadband?

October 2020 saw Hyperoptic launch the full fibre, which promises to be their best ever router for a faster and stronger connection.

Available to new customers taking 500Mb or 1Gb packages, the Nokia Hyperhub features 4x4 MIMO antennas on the 5GHz band, automatic band steering meaning it will detect newer 5GHz capable devices to ensure the best speed possible and automatically adjusts to the best WiFi channel to avoid interference.

Customers taking the 50Mb or 150Mb packages will receive the standard router - the ZTE Hyperhub.

You can connect up your own router if you prefer, however if you want to use Hyperoptic's phone service then the Hyperhub is required.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Hyperoptic Broadband cost?

How much you spend depends on the package you choose. Hyperoptic Broadband packages start from £33 per month. View all the latest Hyperoptic Broadband deals.

How fast is Hyperoptic Broadband?

Hyperoptic offers some of the fastest broadband speeds in the UK, with average speeds of 50Mb, 150Mb, 500Mb and 900Mb. This is significantly faster than the majority of packages on the market.

Can I get Hyperoptic Broadband without a landline?

Yes! Hyperoptic operates on its own cable network which is full fibre, so no copper phone lines. This means that there is no line rental to pay, and no phone service, unless you want one that is.

Can I get Hyperoptic without a contract?

Yes you can. Hyperoptic offer packages on a monthly rolling contract, as well as 12 or 24 month options. As with a lot of providers, you can expect to pay slightly more for the monthly rolling plan, but it’s a great option if you only need the internet for a short time.

Can I get a broadband and TV bundle from Hyperoptic?

No. Hyperoptic do not offer any TV packages. Instead you would need to take TV from a different provider, or use streaming services like Netflix or Amazon Prime Instant Video. There is also the option to use a TV box like YouView or Now TV.

Can I get Hyperoptic in my area?

Without a doubt the biggest drawback to Hyperoptic is their availability. As of January 2024, the Hyperoptic network covers just 1.4 million UK homes, across 64 towns and cities.

If your current provider is Virgin Media then you will need to let them know that you're leaving and it's up to you to coordinate the end of one contract and the start of another.

If you're choosing a broadband package and are currently with another provider that uses the Openreach network, then they will do the contacting on your behalf.
