KCOM Broadband deals
Virgin Media is the only major provider that offers broadband without a landline. Other ISPs use the BT Openreach network to provide services and that requires an active telephone line. Learn more about why you (probably) need a phone line to get broadband

Does KCOM Broadband include a home phone line?

KCOM broadband is FTTP. This means no copper telephone wires are used at any point in the connection, so there is no traditional landline. Instead, KCOM offer a digital phone line which uses your internet connection.

All new Lightstream full fibre broadband customers will be set up with a new digital landline for free. This will give you the line only with calls charged at pay-as-you-go rates. If you want to add a call plan then you can choose from:

  • UK Landlines - £5 per month
  • UK Landlines and Mobile - £10 per month
  • All-inclusive - £18 per month
  • International - £10 per month

It’s important to note that because your new phone line will use your internet service, if there is a power outage or your broadband goes down then your phone line won’t work and you will have to rely on a mobile phone.

What is KCOM Smart WiFi?

KCOM Smart WiFi s a mesh WiFi system which uses WiFi 6 access points to boost your Lighthub routers signal, giving you seamless whole home coverage even in those hard to reach spots.

These access points are easy to install, simply plug them in and optimise using KCOM’s MPro app. They cost £5 per month, per access point. KCOM say the average home should only need 1 access point - but you can order up to 3.

What router do you get with KCOM broadband?

All KCOM broadband packages come with a Lighthub-A router.

The Lighthub-A router has four Ethernet ports, a Gigabit WAN port, USB, plus n and ac standard Wi-Fi. The Latest chipset and improved antennae position help achieve a stronger wireless signal that reaches further around the home. Band-steering automatically optimises the performance to each device by selecting the best possible channel and frequency so that everyone gets the best possible experience, all of the time.

Frequently asked questions

Why is broadband different in Hull?

UK phone companies were originally much smaller and more scattered around the country. Over time, most of them were absorbed into the Post Office Telephone Group - which later became BT. The network in Hull and its surrounding area, however, remained independent, eventually becoming the KCOM we know today.

Read our guide on broadband in Hull.

Can I get broadband with another supplier in Hull?

There is no Openreach or Virgin Media network in the Kingston upon Hull area, meaning the vast majority of providers available in the rest of the UK are a no go. If you really don’t want to go with KCOM, then a 4G/5G mobile connection is probably the next best option. There are also a few local providers such as Pure Broadband, Wisper Broadband and Giganet.

Can I get a TV package with KCOM?

KCOM used to offer a TV service, but sadly this was cancelled in 2006. Customers can subscribe to Sky TV as this comes via satellite dish. However, as BT and Virgin Media do not operate in the area, you are unable to get a package with them.

How fast is KCOM Broadband?

KCOM’s real fibre broadband has a range of broadband speeds from 30Mb up to 900Mb - some of the fastest speeds in the UK.

How much does KCOM Broadband cost?

How much you spend depends on the package you choose. KCOM Broadband packages start from £29.99 per month. View all the latest KCOM Broadband deals.

If your current provider is Virgin Media then you will need to let them know that you're leaving and it's up to you to coordinate the end of one contract and the start of another.

If you're choosing a broadband package and are currently with another provider that uses the Openreach network, then they will do the contacting on your behalf.
