Virgin Media is the only major provider that offers broadband without a landline. Other ISPs use the BT Openreach network to provide services and that requires an active telephone line. Learn more about why you (probably) need a phone line to get broadband

We'd love to help you find the perfect deal though! Please email us at [email protected] (or message us on Facebook if you'd prefer) with a brief description of what you're looking for and we'll get right back to you! ❤️

All you need to know about Sky TV

With over 10 million subscribers, Sky is the most popular satellite TV provider in the UK. They launched their first satellite TV service in 1989 with just 4 free to air channels including Sky News, Europe's first 24-hour News channel, and have continued to lead the way for high-quality service and innovation.

From the sought after Sky Atlantic to brand new movies and over 500 Box Sets, it's easy to see why Sky is so popular.

Let's take a look in more detail at what Sky TV has to offer.

What packages do Sky TV offer?

Sky TV packages come in the form of bundles which can be built up into your perfect package.

Sky Signature is the base package which comes as standard when signing up to Sky TV. Sky Signature comes with over 300 channels (over 100 additional channels to Freeview), over 40 catch up channels and 500 box sets. It includes the exclusive channel Sky Atlantic with shows like Game of Thrones, Gangs of London and Westworld, as well as other Sky channels like Sky Max and Sky Documentaries.

From here, customers can choose to expand their package with add-ons.

Netflix

A Netflix Basic plan is included with the Sky Ultimate TV add-on. This usually works out cheaper than having a separate Netflix subscription, plus by combining your Netflix and Sky together you only have one bill to worry about.

The Netflix Basic plan lets you watch Netflix on 1 device in SD and is seamlessly integrated with Sky's own interface.

If you already have a Netflix plan then there is no need to cancel, Sky will transfer you over with no break in service.

You can upgrade to Netflix Standard and Netflix Premium plans, but this requires you to take the Sky HD and the Sky UHD add-on.

Sky Sports

Included with Sky Sports is 8 dedicated sports channels all in HD.

  • Sky Sports Premier League
  • Sky Sports Football
  • Sky Sports Cricket
  • Sky Sports Golf
  • Sky Sports F1
  • Sky Sports Main Event
  • Sky Sports NFL
  • Sky Sports Arena

Sky Sports News, Sky Sports Mix and Sky Sports Racing are already included in the Sky Signature base TV package.

Sky Cinema

Over 1000 movies on demand and 11 dedicated movie channels split by genre, all in HD.

  • Sky Cinema Premiere
  • Sky Cinema Animation
  • Sky Cinema Greats
  • Sky Cinema Comedy
  • Sky Cinema Select
  • Sky Cinema Action
  • Sky Cinema Sci-Fi Horror
  • Sky Cinema Thriller
  • Sky Cinema Hits
  • Sky Cinema Drama
  • Sky Cinema Family

Paramount+ is also now included with Sky Cinema at no extra cost, saving you £6.99 a month.

BT Sport

Sky TV customers can now choose to add the BT Sport pack pack to their Sky TV package. The BT Sport pack gives you BT Sport 1, 2, 3 and BT Sport ESPN all in HD.

With the BT Sport add-on you can watch on your Sky Q box and on up to 4 devices at home with Sky Go, but it does not include access to the BT Sport app.

Sky Kids

The Sky Kids add-on offers 10,000 episodes on demand, over 90 games on the Sky Kids app and 8 dedicated children's TV channels.

  • Nickelodeon
  • Nick Jr.
  • Nick Jr. Too
  • Nick Toons
  • Cartoon Network
  • Cartoonito
  • Boomerang
  • Baby TV

The Sky Kids app lets you create profiles for each child so you can control what they watch.

Disney+

Sky TV customers can add a Disney+ subscription to their Sky TV service for an extra £7.99 per month.

HD and UHD

Sky Signature does come with some HD channels as standard, and as we mentioned above Sky Sports, Sky Cinema and BT Sport all come in HD.

If you’re looking for even more HD content then Sky currently have 2 separate add-ons - HD and Ultra HD + HD.

Their HD add-on gives 40 channels in HD including Sky Atlantic, Sky Max, Sky Documentaries and Discovery. It will also upgrade you to Netflix Standard so you can watch Netflix on 2 devices and in HD (as long as you have taken the Ultimate TV add-on.)

The Ultra HD + HD add-on gives the same channels as the HD add-on, plus some Sky Originals in Ultra HD as well as selected live sports and movies when you take Sky Sports or Sky Cinema. You will of course need a compatible 4K TV set to view shows in Ultra HD.

Ultra HD also upgrades your Ultimate TV Netflix to Netflix Premium, letting you watch Netflix on 4 devices and in Ultra HD.

Sky Q Multiscreen

Sky Q Multiscreen lets you watch all the channels in your Sky TV package in different rooms with the help of Sky Q Mini Boxes.

Sky Multiscreen comes with one Mini box to watch on a second TV. If you would like to watch on more than 2 TVs, you can add up to 3 additional mini boxes after you've placed your order. You will also be able to watch TV on up to 4 devices with Sky Go.

What is Sky Q?

Sky Q refers to both the TV box and the interface which lets you see all your channels and apps in one place. You can easily switch between Sky TV, and apps like Netflix, Disney+, BBC iPlayer and more, all using the Sky Q interface. Sky Q replaced the old Sky+ service back in 2016.

Sky Q uses the traditional satellite dish that we have all come to associate with Sky TV.

When you sign up to Sky TV you will receive a Sky Q box with 1Tb of storage. This is enough to record around 500 hours of SD TV or 150 hours of HD TV. You can pause, record, rewind or restart live TV.

The Sky Q voice remote lets you control your TV with just your voice. Ask it to 'Play Stranger Things' or 'turn up the volume’.

Sky Q Mini Box

The Sky Q Mini box comes with the Sky Multiscreen add-on, and connects wirelessly to your main Sky Q Box to deliver TV to multiple rooms. It also acts as a WiFi hotspot, helping to boost the signal around your home.

What is Sky Glass?

Sky Glass is the new 4K streaming TV with Sky TV already inside. Unlike Sky Q, Sky Glass allows you to stream shows and apps over WiFi removing the need for a satellite dish and a Sky Q box.

What is Sky Stream?

Launched on October 18, 2022, Sky Stream is the latest addition to Sky TV’s offering. Sky Stream is a small palm-sized puck (box) which plugs into your existing TV via an HDMI cable. This little device uses your broadband connection to stream content direct to your TV, removing the need for a satellite dish or a Sky Glass TV. Sky Stream is the perfect choice for those who can’t have a Sky dish, but don’t want to replace their existing TV with Sky Glass.

If your current provider is Virgin Media then you will need to let them know that you're leaving and it's up to you to coordinate the end of one contract and the start of another.

If you're choosing a broadband package and are currently with another provider that uses the Openreach network, then they will do the contacting on your behalf.
