Volt is the first joint product following the merger of Virgin Media and O2 back in June 2021. The Volt products, which replaced the old Virgin Media ‘Oomph’ bundles, give customers access to special benefits simply by being customers of both brands.

What are the benefits of Virgin Medial O2 Volt?

If you have both Virgin Media broadband and an O2 pay-monthly contract you can take advantage of the following benefits:

Supercharged data and faster broadband speeds

  • Get a Virgin Media broadband speed boost to the next available level (if you aren’t already on the fastest speeds you can get in your area)
  • Double data on every eligible O2 Pay Monthly plan in your name, in your household

Supercharged connectivity

  • Up to 3 WiFi Pods to bust WiFi blackspots at home when you get Intelligent WiFi Plus
  • Roam in 75 destinations, with O2 Travel Inclusive Zone

£150 tech treat

  • Get up to £150 off an O2 Custom Plan for a connected device when you take out a phone on a new O2 Custom Plan
  • Includes tablets, laptops and smartwatches
  • Treat yourself or someone in your family
With Volt, we’re combining the speed and reliability of Virgin Media’s broadband and O2’s mobile networks alongside a variety of incredible perks to give our customers more. The launch of converged services in less than 150 days as a business is a huge milestone moment and demonstrates the momentum we have behind our commitment to supercharge connectivity across the UK. This is just the start.
Jeff Dodds, Chief Operating Officer at Virgin Media O2

How do I get Volt benefits?

To be eligible for Volt benefits, you will need to have a broadband service from Virgin Media and a pay monthly mobile plan from O2. If you're already a Pay Monthly customer of O2 you'll need to sign up to broadband from Virgin Media. Or, if you're a Virgin Media broadband customer already, you'll also need to get a Pay Monthly mobile or sim with O2.

Are Volt benefits worth switching to O2 or Virgin Media for?

If you are already a customer of both Virgin Media and O2, and you are happy with them, then you can reap the rewards of Volt at no extra cost. If you are considering switching then you'll need to weigh up if it's worthwhile for you.

If you don't have a need for lightning fast speed on your broadband or if you don't use much mobile data each month, then it's unlikely you'll save any money with Volt, as there are cheaper deals currently available for low data Sims and standard broadband speeds.

Another thing to consider is that a lot of the benefits are already available to customers as separate ‘add-ons’. For example, WiFi Pods are available to Virgin Media Broadband customers as part of Intelligent WiFi Plus which costs £5 per month. The O2 Travel Inclusive Zone can also be added for £4.99 per day.

Availability

Obviously Volt only works if you are a customer of both Virgin Media and O2.

Currently Virgin Media covers around 15.5 million homes. If you don’t live in an area they currently cover, then you will be unable to access the service and Volt benefits, even if you are with O2.

Frequently asked questions

What are the benefits of Volt?

When you’re with both Virgin Media and O2 you’ll get supercharged speeds, data and WiFi. That means double the mobile data on every eligible O2 Pay Monthly plan in your name, in your household. A broadband speed boost to the next available level (if you aren’t already on the fastest speeds you can get in your area). WiFi Pods if you find any WiFi blackspots in your home and order Intelligent WiFi Plus. And O2 Travel Inclusive Zone, so you can go roam in 75 destinations. Plus, if you take out a phone on a new O2 Custom Plan, you’ll get up to £150 off an O2 Custom Plan for a connected device.

Who can get Volt benefits?

To get Volt benefits, you need to be a customer of both O2 mobile and Virgin Media broadband. Once you're a customer of both O2 and Virgin Media, you can opt in to the Volt benefits.

What is Ultimate Volt?

Ultimate Volt is the biggest and most comprehensive bundle available from Virgin Media combining broadband, TV, landline and an unlimited O2 mobile SIM. Customers signing up to Ultimate Volt will receive Gig1 Fibre Broadband, over 230+ TV channels including premium channels such as Sky Sports and Sky Cinema, landline with Talk More Anytime call package and an O2 unlimited data SIM for their mobile phone. Ultimate Volt also includes Intelligent WiFi Plus as standard.

What is Intelligent WiFi Plus?

Intelligent WiFi Plus uses a WiFi Pod mesh system to extend the coverage of WiFi within the home. These Intelligent WiFi Pods connect to your Hub wirelessly giving faster and more reliable coverage. They use cloud technology to learn how you use WiFi (where you use it, what devices you connect and the time of day you use them), and constantly update themselves to create the best conditions for your household. Intelligent WiFi Plus is usually available for £5 extra per month but Ultimate Volt subscribers get it for free.
