This move probably won’t come a a surprise to most. Plusnet announced back in January 2021 they were no longer taking orders for new TV customers as they looked to refocus their broadband, so it was only a matter of time before existing customers lost the service too.
Customers will be able to keep their YouView box and continue to watch Freeview channels and access apps, and f the box has a record function this will still be available for Freeview channels. However, any existing recordings, YouView paid content and recordings of YouView paid content will no longer be stored after 1st November 2021.
Customers don’t need to do anything. Charges for YouView TV will stop automatically on 1st October 2021. From that day, Plusnet says the service will show up on bills at £0.00, until it disappears completely. Remaining services like Plusnet broadband and home phone will continue to be charged as usual for the remainder of the contract, and will include any discounts that may apply.
Plusnet closed its doors to new orders in January 2021. The decision to end the service in November 2021 means many may still be within their initial contract. By removing the service in this way, Plusnet are triggering a change to their contract with the customer. As such, customers can call Plusnet to cancel their entire service within 30 days of being notified, with no early exit fees.
Customers who were still using Plusnet’s TV services will now need to look for alternatives.
