Sky brings free global roaming to its most loyal customers

Sky has introduced free global roaming for millions of its longest-standing customers, giving eligible Sky Mobile users access to their UK calls, texts and data while travelling abroad at no extra cost.

The new benefit is available from today, 20 July, exclusively to Sky VIP Diamond customers – the top level of Sky's loyalty programme, reserved for customers who have been with the provider for more than 15 years.

Eligible customers can use their Sky Mobile allowance across 120 destinations, including popular destinations such as the USA, Australia, India and Thailand.

The benefit is available across all Sky Mobile data plans, so Diamond customers don't need to take out a particular mobile tariff to qualify.

How does Sky's free global roaming work?

Sky's free global roaming essentially gives eligible Sky VIP Diamond customers access to Roaming Passport Plus at no extra cost.

Normally, Sky Mobile customers pay £2 per day to use Roaming Passport Plus when travelling in one of its 120 covered destinations.

The pass lets you use your UK data allowance, calls and texts while abroad, rather than paying separate roaming rates.

For eligible Diamond customers, that £2 daily charge is now removed.

There's no additional pass to buy or feature to activate before travelling. The roaming benefit works automatically when an eligible customer uses more than 10MB of mobile data, makes a call or sends a text while in a covered destination.

What is Sky Roaming Passport Plus?

Roaming Passport Plus is Sky Mobile's standard roaming service for customers travelling outside the UK.

It covers 120 destinations worldwide, following an expansion from 55 destinations earlier in 2026.

When you're in one of the included countries, Roaming Passport Plus allows you to use your UK Sky Mobile allowance for:

  • Mobile data
  • Calls to UK numbers
  • Texts to UK numbers

For most Sky Mobile customers, Roaming Passport Plus costs £2 for each 24-hour period in which it is activated.

That means a customer using their phone every day on a seven-day holiday would normally pay £14 in roaming charges.

Sky VIP Diamond customers will now receive the same roaming benefit without the £2 daily charge.

Who gets free roaming with Sky Mobile?

The new free roaming benefit isn't available to every Sky Mobile customer.

You need to be a Sky VIP Diamond customer, which means you've been a Sky customer for more than 15 years, and have Sky Mobile.

The benefit applies to existing Sky Mobile customers with Diamond status as well as Diamond customers who subsequently join Sky Mobile.

Importantly, Sky says the free roaming benefit works with all Sky Mobile data plans.

What is Sky VIP?

Sky VIP is Sky's loyalty programme, which rewards customers based largely on how long they've continuously been with the provider.

There are four Sky VIP membership levels:

  • Silver: up to 3 years
  • Gold: 3 to 8 years
  • Platinum: 8 to 15 years
  • Diamond: 15 years or more

Benefits vary depending on your VIP tier and the Sky products you have, with rewards including offers, experiences, competitions and other customer perks.

Diamond is Sky VIP's highest tier, and the new free global roaming benefit is exclusive to customers at this level.

You can check your current Sky VIP status and available rewards through the My Sky app.

Is there a fair usage limit?

Yes. Although roaming is free for eligible Diamond customers, it isn't unlimited.

Sky Mobile's roaming fair usage policy allows customers to use up to 25GB of data per billing period while roaming.

This applies even if your normal UK data allowance is higher than 25GB or you have additional data available through your Sky Piggybank.

If you exceed the 25GB roaming fair usage allowance, Sky may restrict or suspend your roaming service or charge for additional data usage.

So, while Diamond customers no longer need to worry about the £2 daily Roaming Passport Plus fee, it's still worth keeping an eye on how much mobile data you're using during longer trips.

What if I'm not a Sky VIP Diamond customer?

If you're a Sky Mobile customer but haven't reached Diamond status, Sky's standard roaming arrangements still apply.

You can use Roaming Passport Plus for £2 a day in its 120 supported destinations.

The pass activates automatically when you use more than 10MB of mobile data, make a call or send a text while in an eligible destination, with the £2 charge covering the following 24 hours.

If you don't use your phone in a way that triggers the pass, you won't pay the daily Roaming Passport Plus fee.

Sky offers Diamond customers a discounted unlimited SIM

Alongside the new roaming benefit, Sky is also offering Diamond VIP customers who aren't currently with Sky Mobile an incentive to switch.

Eligible customers can get an Unlimited Data SIM for £10 per month on a 12-month contract, compared with a price of £20 per month for new Sky customers.

Customers wanting to keep their existing mobile number can request a PAC from their current network and transfer it when joining Sky Mobile.

A useful new perk for long-standing Sky customers

Roaming charges can quickly add to the cost of a holiday, particularly when travelling outside Europe.

Removing the usual £2 daily Roaming Passport Plus charge gives Sky's longest-standing customers one less cost to think about when travelling, while the expansion to 120 destinations means the benefit now reaches well beyond traditional European roaming.

However, the key restriction is eligibility: free global roaming is only available to Sky VIP Diamond customers with Sky Mobile.

Everyone else can still access the same 120 Roaming Passport Plus destinations, but will continue to pay the standard £2 daily charge.
